Researchers Develop Supersensitive Method to Measure Surface Topography With THz Radiation

The method allows scientists to get an image close to a holographic one in its properties but with less energy input. In theory, the method could be applied in industrial quality control or acquiring images of concealed objects, for instance, in transillumination of envelopes.

Scientists of the Faculty of Photonics and Optoinformatics have developed a method of encoding information for the 6G standard

The information encoding method for 6G standard Scientists from the Faculty of Photonics and Optoinformatics at ITMO University have developed a method for coding information in the terahertz pulse. This method can be used to create wireless data transmission devices in the 6G standard. Such systems will accelerate data exchange by two to three orders of magnitude. Today, scientists around the world are working on ways to transfer data in the terahertz (THz) range, which would make it possible to send and receive information much faster than what is allowed by today’s technology. But the issue they’re facing is that it is much more difficult to encode data in the THz range than in the GHz range, which is currently used by 5G tech. A group of scientists from the laboratory of Femtosecond optics and femtotechnologies has demonstrated the possibility of modifying terahertz pulses in order to use them for data transmission. An article on this subject was published in Scientific Reports (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-020-66437-4) .
